The Chinese Lunar Calendar follows a 12-year cycle featuring 12 animals including the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. Each year is represented in succession by one of these animals and the traits that they are thought to embody. The Ox is the second animal of the Chinese Zodiac. The legend says the Ox was about to be the first to arrive but was tricked by the Rat into giving him a ride, shortly before arrival the Rat sneakily jumped down and landed ahead of the Ox.
