The White Greyhound of Richmond was emblematic of King Edmund Tudor, the first Earl of Richmond, the unity of the red rose of Lancaster's house, and the house's White Rose of York, following the war of the roses.

The combined roses are adorned by the royal crown, with the image laid over an intricately textured pattern within the coins field.

The image is encapsulated by the Beast's title, weight, purity, and year of issue.

The obverse contains her majesty Queen Elizabeth II's contemporary effigy, over a guilloche patterned coin field, with the Queen's title and the denominational value as encapsulation.
